Turbo Mill—Which One Is Right For You
Turbo Mills
The Turbo Mill is an end mill that can plunge, mill, rough, and slot multiple metals, including cast iron, steel, and titanium, while minimizing chattering and absorbing vibrations.
This product comes uncoated, coated with Calico Titanium Carbo-Nitride (TiCN), and covered with Aluminum Titanium Nitride (AlTiN) or our new Sky Coat depending on the customer's needs. The HTC Turbo Mill can absorb vibrations even at its maximum speed and mill at low power levels.
A roughing end mill, also called a rip cutter or hogger, is designed to remove large amounts of material faster than ordinary end mills. With coarse toothed roughing end mills, the machine can remove large chips for heavy cuts, deep slotting, and rapid material removal before finishing operations on steels ranging from low to medium carbon content.
In contrast, when using fine tooth roughing end mills, less material is removed. Still, the mill distributes pressure evenly, making the end mills last longer and produce more refined finishes on high-temperature alloys and stainless steels.
As the most lubricious of all the Titanium Carbo-Nitride (TiN) coatings, Calico Titanium Carbo-Nitride (TiCN) is an excellent dry film lubricant when enhanced hardness and wear resistance are needed. Experts recommend steel, stainless steel, and hardened steel get the TiCN corrosion treatment.
In addition to being suitable for bronze, brass, and plastics, TiCN can also be stripped and recoated, so it makes an excellent coating for stamping, punching, and forming.
A PVD (physical vapor deposition) process applies Calico TiCN in lateral rotating cathode technology. In this process, atoms/molecules are vaporized from solid sources and transported as a vapor to a substrate through a low-pressure gas/plasma under a vacuum. TiCN is applied to a Calico system at temperatures around 450°C.
Advantages of Applying Calico Titanium Carbo-Nitride (TiCN)
- The hardness of high standards
- The residual stress is low
- Durable and resistant to abrasion
- High reliability when operating in dry conditions
- Requires less lubricant
- Corrosive resistance
- Has the ability to perform at high levels of load
- The material is highly resistant to chemicals
TiCN Coat HTC Progressive Coat Double End Stub Ball Endmill With 2 and 4 Flutes
The Progressive Coat Double End Stub Ball Endmill is a solid carbide cutting tool capable of cutting aluminum and other nonferrous metals with exceptional performance. With its chatter-reduction design, it produces excellent surface finishes when cutting aluminum at high speeds.
This end mill features symmetrical end gashing to improve balance and performance. It also features double-rake flutes, which result in superior chip evacuation. In addition to providing extra protection and lubricity, each end mill comes coated with SC-13.
AlTiN Coat-HTC Hard Coat High Performance – 45 DEGREE Helix Endmill With 5 & 6 Flutes
HTC Hard Coat High Performance end mills provide optimum cutting performance on a wide range of materials that are difficult to machine, including:
- Steels
- Stainless steels
- Titanium
The end mills feature unique flute spacing and helical structures designed by our engineers. They have excellent surface finishes due to the chatter-free design. The application of SC-3 coating on these end mills maintains consistency when cutting a wide range of materials. With these end mills, your productivity will increase while your cost per part will decrease.
TiN Coated Standard Ball Endmill With 2 and 4 Flutes
Our standard performance two flute and four flute end mills are not limited to general-purpose use. Developed with sub-micron carbide grain, these end mills are incredibly versatile and work in several materials. We keep these end mills stocked and uncoated in square ends, ball noses, and straight noses.
