ANSI / ISO Conversion

Turning inserts are often labeled two ways: a short ANSI-style code, or the fully spelled-out ISO code. This tool converts instantly between the two — enter either one and get the other.

How it works

The ISO code spells out every dimension of the insert (shape, clearance, tolerance, size, thickness, and corner radius) as a longer string of numbers. The ANSI code is a shorter, older-style abbreviation of the same insert. Both refer to the exact same part — this tool just translates between the two naming conventions.

No spaces or dashes. Type the code exactly as it's printed on the box, run together — CNMG432, not CNMG 432 or CNMG-432. A space or dash will stop the tool from finding a match.

Drilling inserts (U-drills, spade drills) work a little differently. Trigon, square, and octagon drilling inserts — WCMX, SPGT, SOMT, and similar — don't have a separate short ANSI form the way turning inserts do; manufacturers publish the code directly in this same run-together format.
